What is Zakat ?

Zakat is an annual Islamic obligation (one of the Five Pillars of Islam) requiring eligible Muslims to donate a fixed portion of their wealth to support the needy and less fortunate.

How Zakat is Calculated

Zakat is generally calculated as:
Zakat = 2.5% of your total Zakatable wealth, if your total wealth exceeds the Nisab threshold.

The Nisab threshold is the minimum amount of wealth you must have before Zakat becomes payable. For 2025 in Pakistan, this threshold (based on silver) is around PKR 179,689, meaning if your total zakatable wealth is below this, you don’t owe Zakat.

Assets Commonly Included

You should include the following when calculating your total wealth:

      Cash (in hand + bank)
      Savings & deposits
      Investments & shares
      Business stock or trade goods
Gold & silver (valued at market price)
      Less: Immediate liabilities (short-term debts)
Zakat Calculation Formula
Zakat Amount = Total Zakatable Wealth × 2.5%

Only calculate Zakat if your total wealth ≥ Nisab threshold.
